Matthew 9:35-38 The harvest is plentiful.

1. THE HARVEST WILL BE PLENTIFUL FOR THE COMPASSIONATE
Q. Do you see people as harassed and helpless? Do you see them as being broken down by life?

God has called us to see people as they really are.
Q. Are you seeing things clearly or are you seeing them as the world sees them?
We will have misplaced priorities when we do not see people as they actually are.

Satan has changed the value of things. He makes us see the value of a soul as being not that big a deal so that we put the best of our time and energy into events that do not have an eternal bearing.

Q. Are you going to see things clearly enough to go out and help people?

2. THE HARVEST IS PLENTIFUL FOR THE HARD-WORKING
The few workers that there are are supposed to go out to the field and work.

Proverbs 6:6-8 All ants work, not just some. Have you ever seen a lazy ant?
Proverbs 6:9-11 Don't make excuses; make effort.

3. THE HARVEST IS PLENTIFUL FOR THE BELIEVER
Matthew 9:27-34 "Son of David," they called Jesus. They believed in him for who he was and not just as a friendly neighbourhood ex-carpenter.

There are two reactions here to Jesus:
v. 33: Inspiration
v.34: Mockery
You can have either of two reactions as you see great things happening in the lives of those around you. You can pass it off as luck and chance or you can get inspired because you know that God is powerfully and willingly present to work in your life too.
Q. What is your response when you see others doing great things?

Proverbs 20:4 If you plow, then you will reap.
If you are having poor, inconsistent bible study and prayer, do you believe that God wants to use his word and respond to your prayers in order to transform you and use you for great things?

4. THE HARVEST IS PLENTIFUL FOR THOSE WHO DIE WILLINGLY
John 12:20-26
Jesus declares here that his time has come. He knew that he could achieve more by his death than he could by his life.

v. 25 - Do you love your life too much to give it up for others?
v. 26 - Are you wearing yourself out in order to help people up?

5. FOR THE HARVEST TO BE PLENTIFUL, YOU MUST OPEN YOUR EYES

John 4:34-38
The disciples did not see things as Jesus saw them. They were shallow and limited in their perspective. Jesus point is that with the same effort that the disciples went all the way to town to look for food, they should be able to do the same in order to help others.

Jesus reached out beyond social barriers.
Q. What barriers stop you from reaching out to people? Do you avoid people whom you feel are beneath you or whom you feel are superior to you? Do you only reach out to people who are like you - same tribe, hobbies, manner of dressing, etc? It is time to open your eyes and go beyond any barriers that you have allowed to keep you distant from people.

Truly, a plentiful harvest is at hand. Let us, few though we may be, bring in the harvest to the glory of God.
